Adams Middle School | Art
My name is Jennifer Nielsen. I am one of the art teachers at Adams Middle School. I graduated from Ogallala High School and then attended Doane College. While in high school and college, I spent many hours in the art rooms. I consider myself privileged that I was able to pursue a degree in art, which is something I love. While at Doane, I received two Bachelor's degrees, K-12 Art Education and K-12 Special Education.
My first job in education was here in North Platte at Adams Middle School. I enjoy working with middle school students and sharing my love of art with them. It is my pleasure to be teaching 7th grade art students. Seeing your children grow in their creativity and craftsmanship is extremely rewarding. I believe art is an essential piece in educating your child. Art is all around us, whether it be a drawing, a photograph, an animated movie, or a sculpture. Learning an appreciation for the process, the creativity, and skill adds to a well-rounded education. Art provides another place for some students to shine and showcase their talents.
I was also the sponsor of the Art Club, for 20 years. The Art Club members completed a variety of projects over the years including tile murals to hang in the hallways, painted trash cans, painted stool tops, and replicated famous works of art onto ceiling tiles.
In my free time, I have earned my Master's Degree in Curriculum & Instruction through Doane. I have painted many sets for the North Platte Community Playhouse. I enjoy reading and my art table always has some art project in the works. I have taken a class to learn how to knit, which I struggled with. It was a great experience for me which put me back in “student” shoes. It reminded me that learning can be tough, but to stick with it. However, my favorite pastime is spending time with my family.
