North Platte Public Schools | Music

My name is Allison O’Neill and I have lived in North Platte, NE since 2001. I grew up in Marquette which is located in the beautiful Upper Peninsula of Michigan on Lake Superior. I teach K-5 music at two elementary schools and my husband teaches art at St, Pats High School. We have four children. My eldest son lives in Florida and plays quad rugby all over the U.S . Our older daughter is married and lives in Colorado Springs with her husband and three daughters. Still at home, my youngest daughter is a 7th grader and my other son is a senior this year.

I earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education-Vocal Performance at Northern Michigan University and a Masters in Music-Choral/Orchestral Conducting from Ball State University. Since high school, I have participated in numerous activities related to my degree such as: marching band, jazz choir, orchestra, swing choir, plays, musicals, private lessons, church and community choirs, and operas. I sing, play piano, cello, guitar, recorder, and auxillary percussion. Throughout high school and college I had the opportunity to tour all over the United States and parts of Europe as a singer.

I love teaching music to students of any age and have taught in Michigan, Wisconsin, Indiana, Colorado, and Nebraska. Throughout my life I have taught at public, private and charter schools. I have also taught at Mid Plains Community College and Ball State University.

Music is a great subject to teach because it is one of the few whole brain activities. I love the inclusive nature of music and I am able to share it with my students every day!
