Eisenhower Elementary | Fourth Grade

My name is Katie McClain and I am a native of North Platte. I attended McDaid Elementary and graduated from St. Patrick’s in 1999. I attended UNL and graduated in 4.5 years with a degree in education. I decided to get my Master’s Degree in 2013 since education is constantly changing. I received my Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Doane and am very appreciative of the friendships I developed and the strategies that I learned.

This is my 13th year of teaching fourth graders. I appreciate the honesty of ten year olds, the fact that they still seem to enjoy school, they are old enough to know better and  they still respect their teacher.  I started my teaching here in North Platte at McDaid for six years, Hershey for one and have been here at Eisenhower for about six years.  I can honestly say that I will never grow tired of fourth grade because so many aspects change every year!

I am married to my handsome husband Shad whom I met while attending UNL. We have been together for almost 15 years and married for 11. We have two daughters, Callie and Kori, who attend North Platte Public Schools.  Callie is in 4th grade and Kori is a 3rd grader.  The girls go to Osgood and love every minute of it.  Shad and I enjoy running and I love to read.  We also love to watch our daughters play youth sports.  There are very few dull moments in our lives these days!

Teaching is a very challenging but rewarding profession. Working with people’s children is a huge responsibility and one that I don’t take lightly.  I enjoy classroom discussions we have a friendships that are formed. I love watching the “lightbulb” go off as a new concept is finally realized and I also enjoy watching a new challenge be unfolded.  The beauty of teaching is if one strategy doesn’t work, then there is always another one to try.  Each day is different which makes teaching a unique and exciting journey and I look forward to teaching for many more years to come!!
