North Platte High School | Counselor

My name is Matt Kaminski.  I am originally from Elyria, Ohio.  I moved to Nebraska in 1990 and graduated from McCook High School in 1994.  After high school I attended the University of Nebraska at Kearney and received my Bachelor’s degree in Middle Grades Education.  I was also a member of the UNK men’s basketball team from 1994-1998.

During my time at UNK, I met my wife Sarah, who currently teaches math at North Platte High School.   My first year as an educator was in Aurora, Nebraska in 1999-2000. I was the 8th grade math teacher, 8th grade football coach, and JV basketball coach.   My then fiancee was student teaching here in North Platte at the time.  I decided to apply for a position in the North Platte District in 2000 and was fortunate to accept a 7th grade Math position at Madison Middle School.   I taught at Madison for 5 years and was an assistant basketball coach at NPHS.

In 2005, I began teaching in Hershey, Ne and became the head boys basketball coach.  I was the 8th grade math teacher and also taught elementary PE.   During that time,  I completed my Masters Degree from Chadron State College in School Counseling.  I spent 3 years in Hershey and then returned to the North Platte District to teach math and coach basketball again.  This time I was assigned to 6th grade math and freshmen girls basketball.

In 2010,  I was given the opportunity to become an elementary school counselor at Lake Maloney and Osgood Elementary in North Platte.  I also accepted the opportunity to be the head boys basketball coach at NPHS in 2011.   I also became assistant boys golf coach at NPHS in 2015.  In 2016, I transferred within the district to begin a new chapter as counselor at Adams Middle School.

Sarah and I have been part of the NPPSD for 16 years.   We have 3 children (Ryan 13, Abby 10, Chloe 5) who attend North Platte Public Schools  and we are all excited about the future of education in North Platte.  I aspire each day to show energy, enthusiasm, and encouragement in serving my family and others.
