Supporting ALL Students

Back to School Tips

At NPPS, our students receive high quality instruction to ensure their learning, achievement and success.  We strive to teach essential skills and strategies, accommodate learning styles and support ALL students. Teachers provide differentiated instruction based on assessment results and adapt instruction to create enriched learning environments, so all students can reach their potential.  In education, as in most specialized professions, educators use terms that may be unfamiliar to the general public. Please visit Center for Parent Information and Resources to view commonly used acronyms and abbreviations.

Description of Interventions, Supports, Modifications and Accommodations

  1. Interventions are designed to change the manner and/or degree in which a student is being instructed in either small or large group settings.  An intervention can address academic and/or behavioral needs. An academic intervention is a strategy used to teach a new skill, build fluency in a skill or encourage a child to apply an existing skill to new situations or settings.
  2. Supports may include meaningful parent involvement, outside agency counseling, and unstructured peer tutoring, etc.
  3. Modifications are a form of specially designed instruction that change what the student is expected to master and possibly the grade level content of his/her educational program.
  4. Accommodations do not reduce learning or performance expectations that we might hold for students. More specifically, they change the manner or setting in which information is presented or the manner in which students respond.
