Washington Elementary | Fifth Grade

My name is Allen Furlong. I am a Fifth Grade Teacher at Washington Elementary School. Prior to teaching here at Washington, I taught third grade at McDonald Elementary, and was the Title One teacher at Paxton Consolidated School. Both my sons graduated from North Platte High School, and my wife is a local Pediatrician.

Prior to moving here in 2003 I have lived in Pennsylvania, Ohio, and New York. I have worked with young people all my life. I served as a Youth Programs Director in churches, worked in camps for inner city youth from New York, substitute taught in Pittsburgh Public Schools, and taught Third Grade at a Private Waldorf School in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

I enjoy hiking, playing music, and working with my hands. My wife and I are on a mission to visit all of the National Parks. We have visited 32 of the 54 parks and have seen some beautiful places.

As a teacher I believe that kids should be challenged to do their best and have fun learning. Building relationships with my students and challenging them to be the best they can be is my main goal as a teacher.
