North Platte Public School | Speech Pathologist

I graduated from UNL with my master’s degree in 1986 and have been a speech-language pathologist for 30 years working in various locations including ESU 9 for a year in south central Nebraska (Red Cloud, Guide Rock, Superior, and Nelson schools), OPS and Millard substitute prior to working 3 weeks for Blair Public Schools, ESU 16 for 18 plus years working in various surrounding schools around North Platte and the last eight years for North Platte Public Schools primarily at Washington and Jefferson.  I have been working part time since the arrival of my first child 21 years ago. I have a passion for helping children to develop their communication skills.

Following a car accident in April 2014, I had the opportunity to be on the other side of the therapy table as I attended several weeks of tele-therapy to work on some of my executive functioning skills that were affected.  It was a fascinating experience for both the student SLP clinicians from UNK who did my sessions as well as myself as we both knew the communication process so thoroughly.  I believe I am a better therapist as I can identify with some of the struggles my students face.

I also enjoy collaborating with other speech-language pathologists.  I have supervised several SLPs who were completing their CFY (Clinical Fellowship Year) and recently had my first student teacher, which I thoroughly enjoyed.  There is so much we can learn from one another when we collaborate with other professionals in our field.

My husband and I, who have been in North Platte for twenty-eight years, have four children; Hannah and Hope who are college students, Grant who goes to NPHS, and Grace who is a 2nd grader at McDonald School.  I grew up on a farm near Bertrand in central Nebraska and enjoy spending more time with my parents who are now living at an assisted living facility in Gothenburg.  In my spare time I enjoy watching my children in their activities, scrapbooking the many pictures I have taken over the years, being involved in my church, officiating high school volleyball, traveling to warm places, and spending time with family and friends.  Nothing is better than catching up with an old friend or getting to know a new one while enjoying a cup of coffee!
